As a cross-curricular project for every Year 7, we decided this year to mark the 100th anniversary of the start of World War 1 and Rememberance Day with a difference.
The History department visited the Tower of London’s Poppy Display on an Impact day in September. The fantaastic moving display of ceramic poppies was truly awe-inspiring.
In the week before half-term, History focussed on World War 1, while English focussed on the war poets. With some help from the Art dept, we (in English) learned to make tissue poppies.
So by the 7th November, every student in Year 7 had created a poppy, which each contained their own poem entitled: We Will Remember
Our Every Learner Achieves department then decorated the foyet with the poppies.
End result: a very moving thought-provking display of our students’ faith and rememberance.
